This new international conference, VIAMR 2005, will offer a forum for researchers to address and update two major topics of current significant interest:
VACCINE-INDUCED AUTOIMMUNITY
&
VACCINES TO PREVENT OR SUPPRESS AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES
VIAMR 2005 will be concerned with matters relating to immunization and the prevention and treatment of autoimmunity. VIAMR will be an important opportunity for scientists of diverse backgrounds to focus on these significant issues. The studies of vaccine-induced immunity could greatly benefit from research done with vaccines for autoimmune diseases where mechanisms of prevention and induction of autoimmunity are studied in relatively well-characterized animal model systems. Conversely, groups working on prophylactic vaccines for autoimmune diseases need to be more aware of the available data on vaccine-induced autoimmunity. VIAMR 2005 should also appeal to investigators who have an interest in other immune-mediated inflammatory disorders, as it is thought that successful approaches for prevention of autoimmunity will be applicable to many types of inflammatory diseases. There is a general awareness of the increasing incidence and prevalence of autoimmune diseases in the industrialized world, and VIAMR 2005 will present an important opportunity to discuss the fundamental and practical questions that need to be answered in this area.
